About Our Breeding Program

By: Kathy McWilliams-Smith and Thomas Smith

You Too Can Have One
of These in Your Barn!

Our breeding program has evolved over time to fill a very specific need which I learned about from calls I received on an increasingly consistant basis.

The calls I get go something like this, I’m in my 50’s, I’ve been involved with horses for years, my husband just got a custom Harley Davidson and now I want my ‘custom’ dream horse. I want a palomino (or buckskin) that is beautiful to look at, with quality enough to show, but one I can also keep at home and trail ride with my friends. I want a western horse because my back/knees aren’t so good, so I want easy gaits, and if I show I don’t want to have to ride the horse down three classes ahead in the summer heat and get those pretty western clothes all sweaty. Also, I want a horse with size but the pretty features and affectionate disposition of the Arabian.’ There are variations on this call. Some want a hunter, dressage or sport horse instead of a western horse, but all want a great disposition, affectionate, fun and an easy-to-live-with, good sized, beautiful and colorful horse. This is now the market for which our horses are bred.

By crossing Arabian mares with our Cremello stallions, one gets a horse who is exceptionally intelligent and eager to learn - possessing a ‘work-with-you’ attitude, along with strong legs and feet, a beautiful head, big expressive eyes, legendary stamina, graceful carriage and the ‘heart’ of an Arabian. This cross delivers a horse with more size and muscle mass, a little less ‘edge’ in attitude, plus useful aptitude in specific areas such as reining, working cow, etc. The icing on the cake - more color choices!

TR Exotica

Our senior stallion, Fire An Ice, is a purebred whose color also qualifies him to be registered palomino in the Palomino Horse Association Registry. He has been the choice of mare owners of many non-Arabian breeds including Thoroughbreds, Aztecas, Andalusians, Morgans, Quarter Horses, Saddlebreds, POAs, and Sport Horses. When bred to chestnut mares, about 90 percent of the foals have his color or close approximation of it. When bred to palomino and buckskin mares, most of those foals have been palomino or buckskin. Fire An Ice is equally prepotent in passing on his ultra-easy-going disposition, trainability and talent for the western disciplines.

The most recent addition to our stallion line-up is the purebred, LA Priceless. This tall, smooth-bodied stallion with four high, white stockings has a beautiful typy head and a very impressive pedigree. (Padron Psyche grandson out of a Muscat daughter.) His foals out of non-Arab mares have been extraordinary.

In summary, our goal is to be the ‘go-to place’ for high quality Palomino and Buckskin Half-Arabians. To see our current list of available horses please visit our sales page.
