Tiffany Ranch Arabians is the home of three outstanding stallions that allow discerning breeders a variety of choices for creating Half-Arabians. “Since we stand two non-Arab stallions — the cremello Morgan Dreammaker and our newest addition to stallion row, Skips Cream Supreme, a cremello Quarter Horse — we get many calls for Half-Arabians from owners of purebred mares who want to breed for a Half-Arabian,” says owner Kathy McWilliams-Smith.

“The calls I get go something like this, ‘I’m in my 50’s, I’ve been involved with horses for years, my husband just got a custom Harley Davidson and now I want my ‘custom’ dream horse. I want a palomino (or buckskin) that is beautiful to look at, with quality enough to show, but one I can also keep at home and trail ride with my friends. I want a western horse because my back/knees aren’t so good, so I want easy gaits, and if I show I don’t want to have to ride the horse down three classes ahead in the summer heat and get those pretty western clothes all sweaty. Also, I want a horse with size but the pretty features and affectionate disposition of the Arabian.’ There are variations on this call,” McWilliams-Smith says, “some want a hunter, dressage or sport horse, but all want a great disposition and an easy-to-live-with, good sized, beautiful and colorful horse. In my opinion, this is the market where the Half-Arabian shines and where these Half-Arabian crosses are igniting new interest in and appreciation for what an Arabian contributes to a pedigree — the intelligent, eager to learn and ‘work-with-you’ attitude, the strong legs and feet, the beautiful head, the big expressive eyes, the legendary stamina, the graceful carriage, the ‘heart.’ When you cross an Arabian with, say, a Morgan or Quarter Horse, you get more size, muscle and a little less ‘edge’ in attitude, plus aptitude for some specific areas of use such as reining, working cow, and so on. And as the icing on the cake, there are more color choices!

“Our senior stallion, Fire An Ice, is a purebred whose color also qualifies him to be registered palomino in the Palomino Horse Association Registry,” notes McWilliams-Smith. “He has been the choice of mare owners of many non-Arabian breeds including Thoroughbreds, Aztecas, Andalusians, Morgans, Quarter Horses, Saddlebreds, POAs, and Sport Horses. When bred to chestnut mares, about 90 percent of the foals have his color or close approximation of it. When bred to palomino and buckskin mares, most of those foals have been palomino or buckskin. Fire An Ice is equally prepotent in passing on his ultra-easy-going disposition, trainability and talent for the western disciplines. “The feedback we get on our Half Arabians — those we sell and those our stallions produce with client’s mares — is that these Half-Arabians are fulfilling the needs of today’s hands-on owners, and are ambassadors of goodwill, creating new, widespread interest in and appreciation for Arabians. Our goal is to be the ‘go-to place’ for high quality palomino and buckskin Half-Arabians.
