Tom Smith - Tiffany Ranch
Breeding Manager

Tom's other pony!

Although outside mares are certainly welcome at Tiffany Ranch, about 90 percent of the breeding is via transported semen. "Because transported semen is sometimes a first-time experience for both our client and their vet," says McWilliams, "we try to work closely with both. We collect and ship Mon, Wed & Fri." Although Tiffany Ranch requests a day's notice to ship semen, McWilliams says it is not unusual to receive a call in the morning and ship semen that afternoon. "Calls to our ranch are usually answered by myself or Tom," says McWilliams.

Tiffany Ranch is located at 3,000 ft. elavation, in the foothills leading up to the Sequoia National Forest.

"We personally make the shipping arrangements and collect the stallions. This year we are advising our clients that if we have more requests for semen than we can ship on a given day, they will be honored in the order in which they booked." Tiffany Ranch offers stud fee discounts for early bookings, for multiple mares, for mares with show records, and for fees paid in cash. The ranch also offers easy payment terms, including Visa and MasterCard.

Stallion management is taken very seriously at Tiffany Ranch. "The Physical and mental comfort of the horses is very important to us, not only because we care about them and they are special to us," says McWilliams, "but also because of the demands make on them during breeding season. Semen volume, fertility and a stallion's attitude toward breeding are affected by many factors. Good health, nutrition and exercise are basic. More subtle are the negative effects of stress, which can come from isolation, not enough turn-out time, of the mishandling of the stallion during teasing or breeding. Our philosophy is that the more we can treat a stallion like just another horse, the better adjusted he will be."

Just as Tiffany Ranch stallions get close, personal attention, so do Tiffany Ranch clients. "The tremendous response to our stallions has forced us to gear up and get proficient at providing first-class service. We are proud of the fact that much of our business is repeat and referral business. Nothing is more satisfying than a call form an excited, proud breeder about their beautiful, friendly new foal or to hear them say that they had gotten more than they had hoped for."
